George Brertton Award Nomination Form

The Alberta Restorative Justice Association (ARJA) is pleased to announce that it is accepting nominations for the Alberta Restorative Justice - George Brertton Award. This award was established in 2014 in honour of the late Elder George Brertton, Saddle Lake Cree First Nation, for his outstanding commitment and leadership in restorative justice.

ARJA is a collective voice to strengthen restorative justice practices in Alberta communities. It does this by working with institutions, organizations, practitioners, and individuals to promote, educate and support those who wish to utilize healthy, holistic, restorative justice practices. ARJA believes that by acknowledging individuals’ contributions to advancement of restorative justice in their communities, restorative practices will grow. George Brertton was an individual who through his life's work promoted restoring individual, family, or community relationships through the acceptance of diversity and equality of all.

The award is open to all Albertans and is presented annually to the person who meets the following criteria:

Models’ restorative justice practices.
Fosters healthy relationships in communities or among individuals.
Creates opportunities to repair harm in communities through restoring relationships.
Acts as a mentor, teacher, or leader in the restorative justice field

Nomination Requirements

1. Complete the Nomination Form. This includes contact information for the nominee, nominator, and the nominee overview.

2. One letter of support that convey the nominee's achievements as they relate to the award criteria.

3. Photo of the nominee, that may appear in newsletters or on ARJA's website announcing the annual recipient.

Terms and Conditions

1. Please ensure you have nomination documentation:

A) (1) Letter of Support

B) (1) Photo of the Nominee that will not be returned.

2. Additional Materials are not necessary, only the required documentation (Letters of Support and Photo) will be reviewed by the Selection Committee.

3. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

4. Letters of Support from the nominee or their family members will not be accepted.

5. ARJA Board members and Agency / Organization sponsoring award are not eligible for nomination.
